About

The department of Bengali of Kaliachak college started its journey in the year of 1995 along with the establishment of the college with 30 students only in the General Course. eventually, the Department has become the most sought-after centre for Bengali language and literature. However, the Hons. Course has started in 1998. Now the Departments has its own classroom with audio visual facilities and it has also a modern language lab. There are two assistant professors and one state aided college teacher in the Department.

The Department of Bengali, primarily focuses on the study of the Bengali language, literature, culture and history.

Here are some key aspects typically covered within the department. This includes both the study of the Bengali grammar, syntax, phonetics, and semantics, as well as its practical usage in speaking, reading and writing. Bengali literature is rich and diverse, spanning centuries and encompassing various genres such as poetry, prose, novels, short stories, essays and dramas. The department may delve into the works of renowned Bengali authors like Rabindranath Tagore, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and others, as well as contemporary writers. Bengali culture is multifaceted, including elements like music, art, folklore, customs, rituals, and traditions.

The department might explore these aspects to understand the broader cultural context in which Bengali language and literature thrive. Understanding the historical and social context it is crucial to interpreting Bengali literature and culture accurately. The department may offer courses on history of Bengali, including its colonial past, independence movement, and post-independence developments. Some other departments of the institutions in our nation and abroad may offer comparative studies that analyse Bengali literature and culture alongside other literary traditions or cultural contexts, fostering a deeper understanding of both similarities and differences and we may be a part Faculty and students in the Bengali department often engage in research and scholarship, contributing new insights and perspectives to the field through publications, conferences and other academic endeavours. Overall, the Bengali department serves as a hub for studying and preserving the rich linguistic, literary, and cultural heritage of the Bengali-speaking world, while also fostering critical inquiry and intellectual exploration

The department publishes a wall magazine named ‘UNMESH’ yearly. The students and teachers are enriched the magazine.

Cultural Program: -

Our department arranges some cultural programs throughout the year such as Rabindra Jayanti, Nazrul Jayanti, Teachers Day, International Language Day etc. The students and teachers are participating and performing their talents.

Educational Tour: -

The department goes tour once a year. The student and teachers are participating in the program with much enthusiasm.
