MISSION & VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT
To create an academically sound environment that nurtures, motivates and inspires excellence in research and teaching in chemical sciences along with concern for society.
To impart theoretical and practical training in advanced areas of chemical sciences and contribute new knowledge through research which encourages creativity, insight development and a passion for science.
DEPARTMENTAL LABORATORY
- The laboratory has 16 work stations
- The reagents are methodically arranged in different tables. The organic and inorganic samples are kept in separate layers of almirah & essential reagents in racks.
- Good stock of chemicals and glass goods.
- Chemicals and glass items are purchased as per requirement
- Proper disposal of laboratory wastes by recycle process.
- Fire-extinguishers are placed in the laboratory
- Maintenance of the laboratory is carried out with proper safety measures (e.g. checking of leakage in the gas pipelines)
- Appropriate stock resister of the Departmental assets is maintained properly.
TEACHING METHODS ADOPTED
- Module-wise distribution of syllabus
- Teaching plan for theory and practical are maintained
- Study material on the lectures delivered in class prepared by the Faculty both in online and offline mode generally.
- Students are guided by the Faculty for preparing wall magazines, participation in science related quiz, debates etc. Students are also encouraged to present posters and scientific models in the Departmental programmes
- Departmental meetings are held on a regular basis to discuss issues like distribution of syllabus among Faculty, annual departmental program, fixation of dates of U.G.U practical examinations (part –II & part –III & all semester.
- Discussion & demonstration method is mainly used.

STRENGTH, WEAKNESS & OPPORTUNITIES
- Strengths:
- As the department started on APRIL 2002 relatively newly established, we are growing very fast with the help of State Government and other funding agencies. The following may be consider as strength of the department:
- Good Infrastructure, Good Student performance, Increasing awareness to the student towards higher education i.e. Advanced research study etc. As a result a number of Outgoing students getting success in the competition exams.
- Positive attitude of our authority for improving our departmental resources. Inter department activity of the faculty members and student of our university.
- Growing demand for education in chemical science of the student in this relatively remote area.
- Weaknesses:
- Inadequate number of teaching and non teaching stuff
- English language deficiency and poor communicative skill of the students
- Lack of Instrumental facility for research purpose.
- Opportunities:
- Enhancing infrastructure opportunity for extending their career through the expansion of research activity
FUTURE PLAN OF DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY
- Opening Honours curriculum with proper infrastructure and faculty in specialized fields
- Adopting scientific methodologies for the disposal of chemical wastes generated in the laboratory
- Frequent use of ICT in teaching for better understanding of the subject
- Mentoring & guiding students into handling projects related to application oriented chemistry.
