About the department:

Established in 2004, the Department of Botany at Kaliachak College has consistently upheld a standard in botanical education. Founded with the vision of fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of plant life, the department has been committed to provide quality academic programs and opportunities to the aspiring botanists.

Initially offering general courses in Botany, the department embarked on a journey of growth and expansion. In 2017, the department introduced honours courses in Botany, enriching the educational experience for students and empowering them to explore the intricate complexities of plant biology.

With a dedicated team of faculty members, the department strives to nurture the intellectual curiosity of the students, guiding them on a path of academic excellence and helps to kindle the fire of knowledge in the young inquisitive minds.

The current UG course curriculum for Botany Major and Honours are structured by the University of Gour Banga in an interdisciplinary manner which provides a comprehensive understanding of diverse aspects of botany, including various advancements in plant science. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, students gain valuable insights into the fascinating world of plants and their significance in our ecosystem. 

The department prepares students for careers that contribute to the betterment of agriculture, medicine, ecology, and environment, while also fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
